On the 26 of May, international performance poets Kate Tempest (UK) and Anis Mojgani (USA) graced the Sydney Writers’ Festival with breath taking performances. Responding to each others work they performed several poems to a packed crowd. Audiences vied for prime positions and front row dwellers mouthed to words, people peeked through windows and dangled legs over banisters. It was a wonderful compliment to the earlier spoken word poetry event Troubadours and Minstrels and the atmosphere was warm and friendly.
Performances were made by Skye Loneragan, Miles Merrill, CJ Bowerbird, Jo Sri, Tom Hogan (aka Scott Sandwich) and others. It was wonderful to see local talents alongside international performers, and to see that the spoken word poetry scene has so much to offer. The performances of poets from so many varied cultures and experiences brought an atmosphere of creativity, collaboration and community to the event.
